Ruger makes a Glock?
Ruger’s new RXM pistol seems to be poised to shake things up, at least in terms of providing the most value for a polymer framed 9mm pistol.
While it will remain to be seen if the RXM or “Gluger” will really be able to break Glock’s strangle hold on the polymer pistol market. The RXM does come with a number of upgrades that are missing from the standard factory Glock, such as mounting points for a red dot from the factory and metal night sights.
The Fire Control Insert
One key feature that the RXM has is the removeable fire control insert. This could open up a lot of possibilities for modifications and customizations without having to jump through hoops since the actually serialized part can be fully removed from the frame.
Shake up or not needed?
From afar, the biggest criticisms that could be levied at the RXM is that it does nothing new. The fire control insert idea is already being done by SIG with the P320 and the rest of the gun is a Gen. 3 Glock.
Because of this an uncharitable review could say that Ruger is just trying to play catch up. However, it is doing so with ideas that the US military has adopted and copying a gun that is widely trusted. Maybe this modular platform will become something of a standard for handguns. Only time will tell.
